Leadership Excellence 2024: A Year of Reflection and Progress

by Nancy Vepraskas  - December 3, 2024

It’s time to make the critical shift from leading the business by yourself to leading an organization of people. At P2Excellence, we help you navigate the uncharted territories of organizational growth with clarity and confidence.

As we wrap up this year’s Tuesdays at P2Excellence, I want to remind you of all we have explored on what it means to lead with purposehold ourselves accountable, and strategically navigate relationships up, down, and across.

1. Mastering the Art of Managing Up

  •  Understand your leader’s goals, pressures, and preferences, and align your work to support them.
  • Anticipate needs, address blind spots, and bring solutions—not just problems—to the table.
  • This isn’t about getting ahead; it’s about lifting up the organization through alignment and support.

2. Mastering the Art of Cross-Organizational Leadership

  •  Foster relationships based on mutual respect, trust, and collaboration.
  • Be transparent and dependable, especially when stakes are high.
  • Recognize peers as allies who can help expand your reach and bring new perspectives.

3. Elevate Your Team: Creating Impact and Loyalty

  •  Lead with clarity, compassion, and high standards; your team reflects your commitment to excellence.
  • Provide guidance, feedback, and the freedom to learn and excel.
  • Cultivate your team’s talent for both this job and the next. Remember, they are tomorrow’s leaders.

4. Enhancing Leadership: Mastering Industry Knowledge, Job Function, and Business Acumen

  • Invest time in understanding the forces shaping your industry, from competition to emerging trends.
  • Develop insights that not only inform your team but also give them a competitive edge.
  • Leaders who look up and out position their teams to pivot and seize opportunities.

5. Taking Ownership of the Role

  •  Own not only your successes but also the challenges and gaps in your team’s performance.
  • Bring the “whole leader” into your role—integrate your vision, energy, and insight.
  • Accountability creates trust. Show up every day as a leader who champions excellence.

6. Leadership Branding

  • Be the leader you’d follow. Identify the values, strengths, and perspective that set you apart.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently; your words and actions shape how others see you.
  • Brand isn’t a badge—it’s a pledge to lead with purpose, respect, and authenticity.

This year has been about more than just leadership techniques—it’s been about building character, inspiring teams, and creating legacies. We celebrated and challenged you. Asking you to bring your best, knowing this work is not for the faint-hearted. Yet, as hard as it is, it’s the very journey that molds character, earns trust, and builds legacies.

Thank you for joining us on this journey, and thank you for leading with courage and heart.

I am looking forward to the great work we’ll achieve together in the year ahead!

Warm regards,
