It’s almost Halloween. A time for Gremlins…and Zombies…and Tricks…and plenty of Treats! It leads me to ponder…
Halloween or All Hallows Eve precedes All Saints Day, in which the Western Christian tradition provides us time to honor the saints (hallows), martyrs, and other faithfully departed. Before the honoring of the dead comes the ridiculing of death itself. Perhaps this week is a chance to ridicule or at least lessen the people and things that deaden our own spirits. Here’s a place to start.
GREMLINS: Tricksters – people in my life who cause trouble, who disrupt, who dismantle, who cause me problems and then sit idly by, blaming others for the problem. Why am I allowing them in my life? Why are you?
ZOMBIES: The walking dead – those relationships and situations I need to end. Zombies are mindless flesh eating creatures who rob me of the good things in my life. They zap my energy and my focus. Why haven’t I gotten rid of them? Do you have zombies in your life? I bet you do!
TRICKS: The situations occurring where I know I am being “played,” taken advantage of, diminished. How often am I lying to myself, pretending the “trick” isn’t really a trick? Why do we do that?
TREATS: Provided by the generous among us who want to recognize the fun in the day, who compliment our creativity, make us laugh, and provide us with good things. How can I be a more of a “treats” person, going about my day being generous and complimentary? We love an abundant life. There is plenty to share!
Just some food for thought before we open the candy bags and indulge. Here at P2Excellence we hope you have a wonderful Halloween, with many more treats than tricks and with gremlins and zombies put in their proper place! As always, we love to hear your thoughts and ideas.
