Wise Words from Marianne

by Nancy Vepraskas  - August 27, 2013

It’s time to make the critical shift from leading the business by yourself to leading an organization of people. At P2Excellence, we help you navigate the uncharted territories of organizational growth with clarity and confidence.

“We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us. All of us. And as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Marianne Williamson

Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. That is worth thinking about.

Lately, I’ve been reflecting about places where I’ve played small. Did it serve anyone? I’m sure it didn’t serve the world. Perhaps you’ve also had those times when you knew what a brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous person would do, but you stepped back instead of forward. Disappointing, isn’t it?

But we are learning. And so, now the questions to ask are; “What will I do to remember to shine?” and, “How will I be an encourager to others to do the same?”

“Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.” I need to write that down and post it on the bathroom mirror. And on the dashboard of my car. Or maybe in my pocket I’ll just carry a note that simply says “Fabulous!”
