It’s time to make the critical shift from leading the business by yourself to leading an organization of people. At P2Excellence, we help you navigate the uncharted territories of organizational growth with clarity and confidence.
OK, I’ll confess. I’m a big fan of Dr. Phil. I know many of you may not be – I have a friend that says the famous “So, how’s that working for you?” is maddening and disrespectful. I, on the other hand, find when I’m stuck, asking myself that question, “So, how’s that working for you?” often gives me some surprising answers.
Yesterday I heard a new Dr. Phil quote that I want to share today. Here it is:
“Winners do things losers don’t want to. Winners are willing to take a risk; they’re not reckless, but they are willing to take a risk. And the biggest risk of all is admitting that what you have is not what you want.”
I’m betting that when you read that quote, you thought about three things:
- First thought – “Of course, I’m a winner.”
- Second thought – “Hey, I’ve taken risks before.”
- Third thought – “Well, hmmm…do I have what I want?”
Whenever we say out loud, “Hey, this isn’t what I want,” we are declaring that we have to consider new directions, new work. We have to let go of the things we thought would bring purpose and happiness, but didn’t or don’t any more. We have to try new things and go exploring. We have to look at what we should say yes to, or maybe, or no to. Most likely, we don’t need to change a lot of things, just some things.
It’s time to start cleaning up, clearing out, lightening our load and exploring new directions. It’s time we begin taking the risks that will move us out of the places we don’t want to be and into the places where we belong.
Here’s a toast to the winner in all of us, to taking risks, to admitting that change is necessary and the time to change is now. We’d love to hear what you think!
