Letting Go

by Nancy Vepraskas  - June 16, 2015

It’s time to make the critical shift from leading the business by yourself to leading an organization of people. At P2Excellence, we help you navigate the uncharted territories of organizational growth with clarity and confidence.

If we were sitting down having a cup of coffee this morning (or this afternoon), and I turned to you and said, “What is one thing that you are currently thinking or doing that you should let go of,” what would you tell me? What is harming you? What is keeping you from the happiness you desire and deserve? I am betting that something came to mind immediately. At least it did for me.

Now that you have named it, what do you think?

It is often hard to let go. Even when we know it is long overdue. We were raised to think about things a certain way, but the thought no longer rings true. We have a long held habit – it served a purpose at one time, but not anymore. We believed something was true, and now we know it isn’t.  Competing priorities now compete in different ways. Maybe it is time to get moving and put new patterns into place.

We may find it easier if we honor the old before we move on to the new. Perhaps the thing we need to leave behind was, in fact, good and important for a while – but not now. Perhaps we need time to grieve. Perhaps we need to play and experiment. Or maybe we need to “fake it until we make it.”

The truth is that each one of us knows the best way to proceed. We know the process and the solution that is right for us. Perhaps today is the day to give voice to a much needed change. It’s something to think about.
