Letting Go of the Clutter

by Nancy Vepraskas  - August 18, 2015

It’s time to make the critical shift from leading the business by yourself to leading an organization of people. At P2Excellence, we help you navigate the uncharted territories of organizational growth with clarity and confidence.

When I begin to clean up one area of my life, I find myself getting lighter in all the aspects of my life. Does that happen to you? I clean out a closet at home and later in the week I find myself tossing files at work. And then I’m simplifying a project or, maybe, if I am lucky, even eating better.

Sadly, of course, the same is true in reverse. If I am hoarding stuff, my desk gets messy, my work outputs become too complicated and my diet becomes “overcrowded” as well.

It’s true for my relationships as well as things. I suspect that has something to do with the way I am feeling about things. Am I feeling strong which means I can open up the spaces around me? Or am I needing an extra dose of security which means I am hanging onto the things (and the people) that I should let go of?

Sometimes it is good to sit with these feelings and figure out what is going on. Then again, at other times, I find it easier and more effective to simply start somewhere simple – perhaps a work drawer or my wardrobe – in the hopes that the flywheel will catch momentum and I can again live a less cluttered life!

Those are my thoughts. I would love to hear yours!
