The Decision Maker’s Edge:

Bold, Smart, and Impactful Choices

Hello and welcome back to Tuesday’s!

This month, we’re focusing on Decision Making and Problem Solving, a defining competency for high-impact leadership.

Being seen as a strong decision maker is about more than just making calls; it’s about making the right calls at the right time, engaging the right people, and ensuring execution. Some leaders hesitate too long. Others act too quickly without gaining buy-in. Many make great decisions but fail to follow through.

This month, let’s focus on what it takes to make bold, smart, and effective decisions that move you and your organization forward.

Why Now?

Decisive leadership is a competitive advantage. In a fast-moving world, organizations need leaders who can make smart choices, bring people along, and get things done. Delayed decisions create missed opportunities, and poorly executed ones create confusion. Now is the time to sharpen your ability to make decisions with clarity, confidence, and follow-through.

Why You?

You are in a position of influence. Your team, peers, and leadership rely on your ability to understand the landscape, make thoughtful decisions, and drive progress. Whether you’re making decisions that shape your company’s future or your own career, strengthening this skill will increase your impact and credibility.

How Do You Start?

Start by identifying an upcoming decision and running it through these three filters:

  1. Who needs to be involved? Stakeholder alignment matters.

  2. What level of urgency does this require? Act fast when needed, but don’t skip strategic input.

  3. How will we execute? If the next steps aren’t clear, you haven’t finished the decision.

Challenge:

Indecisiveness, over-analysis, and fear of failure can cause hesitation, delaying progress and frustrating teams.

On the flip side, moving too fast without stakeholder alignment can lead to resistance, rework, and wasted time.

Even when a great decision is made, it can still fail if there’s no clear path to execution.

A strong decision-maker is not just someone who makes a choice—they ensure that choice leads to action and impact.

Self Reflection:

Ask yourself

  • Am I letting fear of failure delay my decisions?
  • Am I balancing speed with alignment?
  • Am I ensuring execution?

The best decision-makers understand the why, the who, and the how of their choices.

  • Why does this decision matter?
  • Who needs to be involved?
  • How will we execute and measure success?

Hack:

Set firm decision deadlines to avoid over-analysis. Use a simple framework like:

  • Do I need input? If yes, identify stakeholders and engage early.
  • Is this urgent or strategic? Urgent decisions require speed; strategic ones require more discussion.
  • What happens next? If execution is unclear, the decision isn’t finished. Assign accountability immediately.

Great decision-makers know when to act fast, when to slow down for alignment, and how to ensure follow-through.

When to Consider Hiring a Coach:

If you find yourself frequently stuck in indecision, struggling to gain buy-in, or making decisions that don’t get executed, it might be time to work with a coach.

A trusted advisor can help you refine your decision-making approach, navigate the political landscape, and ensure that your choices drive real impact.

Action Steps:

Think about a recent decision.

  • Did you hesitate too long?
  • Move too fast?
  • Fail to follow through?

What could you adjust next time?

Consider whether you engaged the right people, set clear execution steps, and balanced urgency with alignment. Each decision is a chance to improve.

I Believe In You

The best leaders are known not just for making decisions but for making decisions that get executed and drive results.

I believe in your ability to make bold, smart, and effective choices.
