It’s time to make the critical shift from leading the business by yourself to leading an organization of people. At P2Excellence, we help you navigate the uncharted territories of organizational growth with clarity and confidence.
On St. Patrick’s Day, when we were making the difficult decision to not head to a restaurant for corned beef, I had no idea that we were at the beginning of a multi-year health and, consequently, economic period of unrest. A renewal of the fight for equal opportunity and social justice. Parents learning new requirements that support the health and education of their children. An election cycle that felt brutal. Worrying and often feeling confused about how to protect our most vulnerable. Suffering loss. Remote work. Daily deliveries. Disruption to every sport we love and root for. Jobs lost and some fortunes made. Watching some companies figure out how to pivot and some not able to do so. Missing family. And travel. Getting angry. Feeling depressed. Grieving. Learning to be kind and flexible. Cleaning closets. Gaining 10 pounds. Reaching out and reflecting in. Not to mention disrupting our passion for sports! Serious stuff.
It has been a year of challenges and of learning. And we still have months to go. My guess is that many permanent changes will be permanent as we move towards a safe and readily available vaccine. Will the changes be a scar or a gold star? Will we be better or worse for this trial? And what about our neighbors near and far?
As the season draws to a close, I am asking myself:
- What do I require to bring my best self to a very difficult time? And how do I ensure I get what I need?
- What have I learned about myself that I don’t really like? And what am I going to do about that?
- If I fundamentally believe in the goodness of the American people (and I absolutely do), how do I increase my ability to sincerely be one of those good guys?
- How do I use what I have experienced to be more thoughtful, kinder, more generous, more resilient. More listening, less telling?
