Leadership Branding Part 2 – Core Values

by Nancy Vepraskas  - October 15, 2024

It’s time to make the critical shift from leading the business by yourself to leading an organization of people. At P2Excellence, we help you navigate the uncharted territories of organizational growth with clarity and confidence.

Every leader, consciously or not, has a personal brand that reflects their mindset, behaviors, and communication style.

So, the key question is: Are you shaping that brand intentionally, or is it forming without your input?

Before diving into strategic decisions, we must start with foundational values—the bedrock that supports everything else you do. These values—integrity, authenticity, empathy, accountability, humility, courage, and respect—are essential to building trust. Without them, it’s impossible to inspire your team, influence peers, or earn the respect of your boss.

Why Foundational Values Matter:

  • Integrity: Doing the right thing, even when it’s hard, builds trust.

  • Authenticity: Being true to yourself builds credibility and genuine connections.

  • Empathy: Understanding and supporting your team’s needs strengthens relationships.

  • Accountability: Taking responsibility for outcomes fosters reliability and trust.

  • Humility: Being open to feedback fosters growth and collaboration.

  • Courage: Standing by your principles in tough times demonstrates strength.

  • Respect: Treating others with dignity drives inclusion and better collaboration.

THE ROLE OF SELF-CARE AND BALANCE

As leaders, we face immense pressure.

Self-care and balance are critical to sustaining long-term success.

When leaders care for themselves, they show up more resilient, attentive, and present.

Balance between professional responsibilities and personal life helps you maintain your energy and leadership impact over time.

Reflection & HOMEWORK

This week, focus on gathering feedback from trusted colleagues about how you demonstrate these foundational values.

Ask:
“Where do you see me excelling in these values?”
“What can I work on to enhance trust and impact?”

Also, take stock of your work-life balance and reflect on how personal care affects your leadership.

I look forward to reconnecting next week with action steps.
