Resilient Leadership:
Why Adaptability Is The Real Super Power
This month we turn to Adaptability and Resilience, the quiet backbone of high-impact leadership. These aren’t flashy skills, but they’re the ones people remember you for when everything’s changing.
I’ll never forget a client who once told me, “If one more person says, ‘we’re building the plane while flying it,’ I may jump out mid-flight.” We laughed but we both knew she wasn’t entirely joking.
The past few years have stretched even the most seasoned leaders, and yet, those who rise are the ones who can pivot, recover, and keep leading through the turbulence.
Why Now?
Because the pace of change isn’t slowing down. And teams don’t just need plans, they need leaders who can remain calm, flexible, and clear under pressure. Adaptability and resilience make you a stabilizing force. Not perfect. Just present and capable of helping others move forward.
Why You?
Because you’ve already navigated so much. And you’re still standing. You’re leading, learning, growing. Your adaptability becomes permission for your team to do the same. Resilient leaders create resilient cultures.
How Do You Start?
This week, ask yourself:
Where am I gripping too tightly to “how it used to be”?
What small shift could help me move forward?
How can I model flexibility with calm instead of urgency?

Challenge:
Resistance to change often shows up as stress, fear, or even sarcasm (“Great, another pivot.”). And those reactions are understandable.
We like clarity. We like control.
When change hits, especially unexpected change, we can feel like we’re losing both. It’s tempting to dig in and cling to what we know. But adaptability is about loosening our grip, not losing our grounding.

Self Reflection:
Ask yourself,
“Do I meet new challenges with openness, or do I push back because I’m uncomfortable or unsure?”
Your first reaction may be resistance but your second reaction can be intentional.
That’s where resilience lives.

Hack:
Not sure where to begin?
Start with this: focus on what’s within your control even if it’s just your attitude.
And when in doubt, practice daily gratitude. Gratitude is a quiet strength-builder. When you train your brain to notice what’s working, it builds resilience for when things aren’t.
Try starting team meetings with one “surprising good thing” that came from a recent change. You’ll be amazed at what you hear and how the tone shifts.

When to Consider Hiring a Coach:
If you find yourself stuck in a season of setbacks, or if every change feels heavier than the last, a coach can help.
Together, you can sort through what’s temporary, what’s true, and what’s yours to lead.
Sometimes the best way forward is reframing the story you’re telling yourself about change.

Action Steps:
Look back at a recent change or disruption. What’s one thing that turned out better than expected or taught you something useful?
- Write it down.
- Share it with someone.
Let it remind you that you’re already more resilient than you think.
I Believe In You
You don’t have to love change to lead through it. You just have to stay open.
I believe in your ability to grow through it, not just go through it.
